"On Longing" Assignment

"The body is the primary mode of perciving scale."
I was standing on the stage of Radio City Music Hall in NYC. The theatre was massive, I saw the hundreds of rows of seats in front of me. I imagined all of them were filled and I just gave the performance of a lifetime. That was very special to me. I go back to that place when I need a little confidence boost.

"The souvenir speaks to the context of origin through a language of longing, for it is not an object arising out of need or use."
This bird whistle I got in Downtown St. Augustine. I am an avid birdwatcher, and I always long to see rare birds. This is a historic birdwistle, one that people in the 1700s would use. I have always wanted to travel back in time and experience what life would be like back then.

"THE SOUVENIR REDUCES THE PUBLIC, THE MONUMENTAL, AND THE THREE-DIMENSIONAL INTO THE MINIATURE, THAT WHICH CAN BE ENVELOPED BY THE BODY."
This mini troll thing I got with my best friend. When I look at it, it makes me smile remembering all the fun I had with him.

"To have a souvenir of the exotic is to possess both a specimen and a trophy."
This Luna Moth was found outside my house. It was on its last legs, as they don''t live very long. These things are very rare to find, and I was glad I was able to catch it.

"The place of origin must remain unavailable in order for desire to be generated."
This is from a Jax. Iceman game. I was tossed it by the mascot, Fang. I haven't been able to go back to a game, so this place is unavailable. I really want to go back to a game.

I don't think you gave us the page number. Sorry!
