"Run for the Radishes" explores the sense of taste and smell. One can taste the radishes, because they are real radishes, and one can smell the strong earthy scent of the radishes. This piece is inspired by the traditional Jewish food of horseradish. The piece is a play on words. It's a horse, made of radishes. Horse-radish. The content is important because it shows humor, something that isn't shown much in art anymore. A lot of art pieces nowadays have to have some "deeper meaning" and I said, "screw that. I'm making a pun!" Also "Run for the Radishes" is in reference to "Run for the Roses", a popular name for the Kentucky Derby.

No in progress photos, I am sorry.

This sculpture reflects the time I spent with friends at lunch in high school. We played poker to pass the time, watching the clock, arguing, laughing. The wood was used to represent the faux wood of the round lunch table we sat at. The heart and diamond are suits of the cards we played with. The stokes are to represent the amount of juxtaposition our one friend had, Isaac. He would always interrupt us and shout over us. When oriented correctly, the stoke at the bottom of the circle is red, which is also a reference to a "6" on a clock. There were 6 of us who played. The 52 lines on the sides are in reference to 52 cards.

Please accept this one. This is the only one I have. Sorry I spilled the ink 😂

Making things non-representational was hard. It was challenging to NOT make something look like something that already existed. I kept asking my friends, "what does this look like?" They would all answer with something random and that was exactly what I was going for. Using only a few different materials was hard too. I kept wanting to use ones that weren't on the list, but I couldn't.

While working on these, I came to a realization that not everything needs to be literal. There can be symbols and actions that represent things. Like for example, the second sculpture's arms falling off symbolizes the fame literally "breaking" him. These symbols can be interpreted differently, too. Not everyone can take things the way I do. And that is ok.
